Building a home in an historic neighbourhood was never going to be straightforward. The heritage overlay meant we had to be very considerate with what we did to the façade of the home – a difficult task!
The team at Derbyshire came up with a design that I was very happy with and ticked all the boxes for myself and the planning department. The modern interior is stunning and contrasts beautifully with our heritage style home. The HIA awarded my home the best Custom Build in the regional Housing Awards for Western Victoria in 2012 so I couldn’t ask for more.
The quality of the finish is outstanding and I have everything I required from the home office, to the gym and built in spa. The kitchen daybed is a favourite space of mine.

I met Noel at the bike training sessions we both attended. I appreciated his honest, sincere approach to things and when I learned that he had a building company I was happy to have him build my new home.
My partner Jon has a large above height van that needed to be accommodated and the house plan incorporated an extra-large tilt panel door that didn’t look out of place and fitted in beautifully to the modern design.

From the start I think Derbyshire knew I was always going to be a very hands-on client who like to be involved and understand the detail. My involvement was never discouraged and I doubt other builders would have ‘tolerated’ me as well. Very happy with the quality of the craftsmanship.
Derbyshire never took shortcuts and regardless of some complicated design and some difficult materials chosen by us. They always made sure the job was done right with excellent attention to detail. For example our floors (which we love) are pre-finished and created some challenges during the final stages of the fit-out. Whilst Derbyshire pre-warned us of these difficulties they were happy to work with our choices. They also helped and advised us on other choices of materials, windows, stone benches etc.
Tim, David and Chris were always available and very responsive throughout the process. Communication was never a problem. After Chris came on as our supervisor he was on top of every detail and could always answer my queries on any part of the plans or build progress. Favourite part of the house is the living room and the way that space ‘feels’. We love the high ceilings, natural light and stone fireplace. Overall I think the best way to describe Derbyshire is ‘uncompromising’ and committed to the quality of the final product.
